The early races of Senna’s career in England are shown on a racetrack next to a mountain range. There are no mountains in England, especially in Norfolk, which is famous for its flat landscape. First, while opinions on historical accuracy may differ, the profound impact Ayrton Senna had on Brazil and its people should not be overlooked.
Beyond his undeniable talent and charisma on the racetrack, Senna was—and remains—a unifying symbol for a nation often divided by social, economic, and political differences. At a time when Brazil faced enormous challenges, he brought hope, pride, and a rare sense of unity. Even today, in an era marked by political polarization, Senna’s legacy transcends these divisions, making him one of the few figures that all Brazilians can celebrate.
The cinematography, acting, and attention to detail set a new standard for Brazilian series and are arguably the best ever produced in the country. Twelve years after his escape, professional criminal Trojan returns to Berlin. In the city, they prepare to steal a valuable painting, but the carefully planned robbery quickly spirals out of control. During the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin, the public saw how professional criminal Trojan (Misel MATICEVIC) from IM SCHATTEN (2010) had to leave the capital indefinitely. Trojan continues to operate in a rather analogous way: he commits old-fashioned crimes, such as the theft of tangible objects such as watches, cash and paintings. He is not affiliated with any mafia or clan structure, he is a lone fighter, only occasionally and out of necessity participating in a team!
When the coup in the Ruhr does not go as planned, Trojan must return to Berlin to reconnect with old contacts (Marie-Lou SELLEM). And so it is: together with three accomplices (Tim SEYFI, Marie LEUENBERGER, Bilge BINGÜL) Trojan manages to steal a valuable painting by Caspar David FRIEDRICH. But then problems begin with the mysterious client Viktor (Alexander FEHLING)… IM SCHATTEN, by Braunschweig director Thomas ARSLAN, was a highly anticipated bombshell of the genre at the 2010 Berlinale. An interesting genre film made in Germany, told with the cinematic means of the Berlin School.
Gangster films are still a rarity in German cinema. The images of cinematographer Reinhold VORSCHNEIDER (also IM SCHATTEN) tell with cold precision about people living in a dark version of Germany. Dark places, in the shadow of nearby attractions, but far from the perception of the police and ordinary residents. Berlin appears as the main character and antagonist of the film’s characters. The underrated music by Norwegian composer Ola FLOTTUM (The Worst Man in the World, 2021) also contributes greatly to this tense atmosphere.
Many viewers will be able to recognize this urban development with all its streets from their surroundings. Haunted places are very close to us: scorched earth in the shadows! Misel MATICEVIC (IN THE ECHO OF CRIME / BABYLON BERLIN) is again very convincing as the Trojan horse, of which we will probably see more (Thomas ARSLAN is planning a kind of Trojan trilogy). GERMAN FILM AWARD nominee Marie Lou SELLEM (nominated in 2024 for KNOCHEN UND NAMEN / BONES AND NAMES) is a cold mediator. But GERMAN FILM AWARD winner Alexander FEHLING (2019 for DAS ENDE DER WAHRHEIT / THE END OF TRUTH) is awfully good and certainly doesn’t need to hide from classic villains like Klaus KINSKI and Michael FASSBENDER.
Thomas ARSLAN doesn’t want to spend as much time with the third film in his Troy trilogy as he did from 2010 to 2024.

After a heist goes wrong, a troubled thief and orphan must save his kidnapped partner from a ruthless drug lord and his charming hitman. This movie tries hard to be stylish and charming, in the manner of the first Smokin’ Ace Movie. Lou Diamond Phillips plays him as well as anyone, even though he’s mostly almost unrecognizable. The rest are caricatures so over-the-top that they’re just two-dimensional and boring.
The glaring, bulging eyes don’t turn this into anything funny or clever. The movie seems to think it needs an action scene every five minutes to keep you watching—and that’s partly correct. The plot is so bland and omnipresent that it’s hard to follow. Or rather, it’s hard to care enough to bother following it.
There’s a guy who stole money or something. And at least two other groups of people want to get it from him, for reasons that escape me. It’s extremely hard to care about any of the characters when none of them are real. The undoubtedly competent stuntmen working on this lose their credibility when you realize how much of it is green screen.
The main character can’t even ride a motorcycle on a straight road without having to phone him. I made it all the way through, even though I wanted to give up on several occasions. Since the gunshot wounds were mostly inconsequential, the stakes were generally nil. When people actually died, it was hard to believe they were actually dead, when they didn’t know the worst of it beforehand.
Did anyone win in the end? I don’t know and I watched the whole thing.
