Mismatched cousins reunite for a journey across Poland to honor their beloved grandmother. The adventure takes a turn when the odd couple's old tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family history. When Benji and David visit their grandmother's house in Poland, the setting is the place where Jesse Eisenberg; his real-life ancestors settled in the diaspora. Benji Kaplan: We keep moving, we keep light, we keep agile. Benji Kaplan: The conductor comes by to get the tickets, we tell him we're going to the bathroom. David Kaplan: Bathroom.
David Kaplan: It's so stupid
Benji Kaplan: He gets on the train at the back and goes to the front. David Kaplan: Excuse me, we're latecomers? When he gets to the front, the train will be at the station and we're home free. Tickets probably cost twelve dollars. Benji Kaplan: That's the principle. We shouldn't pay for train tickets in Poland.

But I was so happy to see this!
I saw this film last week at the AFI Film Festival in Hollywood. When I got to this film, I was suffering from film overload and as I was chatting to someone in the audience before the film started, I almost forgot what I was about to see! As you know from the synopsis, Jesse Eisenberg wrote, directed and stars in this great film about two cousins; a trip to Poland to see his beloved grandmother's country. Eisenberg shines in the role he seems to have been created for - the nervous, edgy, devoted family man who always wants to do the right thing. Joining Eisenberg is Kieran Culkin, who plays Eisenberg's exact opposite - brash, outspoken, and willing to break the rules, which Eisenberg resented. Culkin's character easily befriends his fellow travelers and his tour guide, again much to Eisenberg's amazement (and sometimes annoyance).
The story itself is very engaging, and you'll definitely want to join them on their journey
Culkin could be nominated for an Oscar for the film, and Eisenberg could be nominated for screenplay and/or directing, so I highly recommend you check this out ASAP. Take a look back at some of our favorite posters from 2024, from Alien: Romulus to Road House.
